Missional Church

“The missional church is the people of God partnering with God in his redemptive mission in the world.” (Reggie McNeal, Missional Renaissance)

John 20:21 – As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. (Jesus)

“Mission is the result of God’s initiative, rooted in God’s purpose to restore and heal creation. ‘Mission’ means ‘sending,’ and it is the central biblical them describing the purpose of Gods’ action in human history . . . God’s mission continued in the sending of the Spirit to call forth and empower the church as a witness to Gods’ good news in Jesus Christ.” (Darrell Guder, Missional Church: From Sending to Being Sent)

Matthew 28:19-20 – Go and make disciples (Jesus)

Go – “on your going way” – “in your journey” – as you live your life
Make Disciples [command] – “duplicate” – help others follow like you do

“Our job is not to ‘do church’ well but to be the people of God in an unmistakable way in the world. We are to be the aroma of Jesus in the cemetery of decaying flesh. We are to be different in the hope we offer, in the grace we exhibit, and in the obvious sacrifice of love we display in dealing with others.” (Reggie McNeal, Missional Renaissance)

John 13:35 – Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. (Jesus)

2 Corinthians 2:15-16 – Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God . . . To those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume.
